Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti is observed as birth anniversary of Indian Guru and philosopher Adi Shankara.
Shankaracharya consolidated the doctrine of Advaita Vedanata (अद्वैत वेदान्त) and revived it at a time when Hindu culture was on decline.
Adi Shankara, along with Madhava and Ramanuja, was instrumental in the revival of Hinduism. These three teachers formed the doctrines that are followed by their respective sects even today. They have been the most important figures in the recent history of Hindu philosophy.
In the “Sripada Srivallabha Charitamrutam,” Sripada Srivallabha, the first incarnation of Lord Dattatreya, is described as having a divine sister named Vasavi, who is the female aspect of the indwelling God, Vasudeva, and is considered the same essence taking female form.
Vasavi’s Role:
Vasavi, also known as Vasavi Kanyaka Parameshwari, is described as the female aspect of the indwelling God, Vasudeva (Lord Krishna, an avatar of Maha Vishnu).
Sripada’s Statement:
Sripada explains that Vasavi is his divine sister, the same essence taking to a female form.
Vasavi’s Significance:
Vasavi is considered the Universal Mother and pure nature, similar to Sripada, who is described as a youth of sixteen years, meaning sixteen dimensions.
Worship:
Vasavi is worshipped in various forms, including Durga and Radha in the Krishna system, and as Kanyaka Kumari in South India.
“Sripada Srivallabha Charitamrutam”:
This book, written by Shankar Bhatt, a contemporary and devotee of Sripada Srivallabha, provides an insight into Sripada’s life, teachings, and miracles.
Vasavi’s legend:
Vasavi is said to have entered fire to safeguard her purity from a demonic assault, along with 102 couples from the Arya Vaishya community.
Vasavi’s Sacrifice:
After her sacrifice Vasavi’s soul was sanctified at Penugonda, and elevated to the status of a deity.
